Trédaniel plan d'eau, afternoon (Friday)

A small red tractor is mowing the grass around the mairie. The smell has always put me in mind of bananas; I've heard there is some molecular reason for this.

The philologist, Pierre Calembour, agrees with you. In his book on the Language of Sheep, he refers to the articultion "baa nanas" as an indication of an ovine preference for the fruit.

I've never thought "bananas" . . . but I will smell deeply next time and see if I can pick up a whiff.
