Up the road, afternoon
A wheatear, bold white rump and black tail tip, bobs onto a nearby fence, then to an overhead wire, then a tree, watching me. Charming, not least because of its name.
My dad told me (with no small amount of glee) that wheatear is a bowdlerised version of its true name. It's all to do with that white rump... whitearse.

Oh that's fab, I didn't know that!
I hope it doesn't make it less charming -- but I giggle to myself every time I hear it mentioned.
