Quessoy arboretum, afternoon.

A largish adder suns itself on the path, until becoming aware I'm watching it and making off  into the marshy grass.

Despite this, we lie happily under the flowering crabtree.

503! Snakes are misunderstood creatures. I worked with one in a school play many moons ago and have had warm feelings for them ever since.

Hello,R.

It didn't startle me too much, but I always worry for Molly a bit when it comes to adders. I hope she'd give one a wide berth, as she doesn't like things that look like snakes, and I gather snakes don't like to waste their poison unnecessarily.

I quite like big glossy pythons!

Oh! Right, an adder is poisonous, so Molly has to be a good girl and stay away from them. Around here right now, snakes are particularly active, and we do have one poisonous kind called a Copperhead.

We have lovely bronzy grass snakes sometimes, which aren't poisonous, and occasionally slow worms, which are legless lizards. Setu, at 'Gwech ha gwech all', who's a clever and rather enigmatic polyglot like yourself, has some good pictures of one round his way in Finistere. There's a link to him on the blogroll at Box Elder, you might get on...

The name Setu sounds Japanese, but then the blog name sounds Welsh. I'll drop by. Yep, I'm afraid the enigmatic feeling at my blog is necessary because of the nosy people I work with. I have your email address because I jotted it down some time ago when I stumbled across it at Tristan's place ... shall I send you a short email and properly introduce myself?

I understand, very wise.

That was sharp-eyed of you! Yes, by all means, it would be lovely to hear.
