Woods above Moncontour, afternoon, walking with E. and Moos.

The peacock who lives in the house where the path starts gives us a full rattling display, or rather it's for his peahen, who is more concerned with the dogs.

Is the peahen concerned as in "interested," or concerned as in "afraid?" I'm just wondering if the peacock's show is motivated by aggression or jealousy!

I gather he'd probably got the show on the road for her benefit before we came along, it takes quite a while to work one of those things up I think! She wasn't overly frightend of the dogs, there was a fence between us anyway, she just preferred to keep her eye on them rather than appreciating his effort...

I once stayed in a hotel where there were peacocks in the garden. One woke me at 4 o'clock in the morning, with a horrendous shriek, sitting on the ledge outside my window. When I told the owner that I would have liked some warning, she gave me half a dozen peacock eggs to take away with me, by way of apology. The were good fried.

I have a friend who has peacocks - and she often regrets that their characters aren't as beautiful as their colourful display!

(Fried peacock eggs! BTS, the chickens didn't come out to play in the snow today. They huddled in their coop instead.)
